You Begged for the Fast Road and Faith Handed You the Slow One You asked for the shortcut. The clean answer, the quick turnaround, the thing to resolve ...
You asked for the shortcut. The clean answer, the quick turnaround, the thing to resolve by Friday so you could finally exhale. What showed up instead was a longer road with no visible end, and you've been walking it ever since, wondering why the woman who prayed hardest got the slowest route.
That's the one that stings. Not the no. The maybe, later, keep walking.
Here's what I've come to believe after walking a few of these myself. The slow road usually isn't life ignoring you. It's life building something in you that a fast answer would have skipped right over.
You wanted the problem gone. What you're actually getting is a stronger version of you to meet it with. Those are not the same gift, and the second one lasts longer.
Women were built for this kind of resilience. We come back from setbacks a little tougher each time, even when we're furious about the pace of it. God knew what He was doing when He made the woman a force that keeps rising.
Think about who you were when you first prayed that fast prayer. Scared, tired, wanting out of the discomfort more than you wanted anything else.
If that answer had landed overnight, it would have handed everything to the version of you who was just trying to survive the week. The version who hadn't learned yet how much she could carry.
The slow road gives the answer to a different woman. The one who figured out she could handle the grocery run alone, the load up the stairs with nobody offering to help, the morning that fell apart and still got everyone where they needed to be. That woman holds onto what she's given, because she knows exactly what it cost.
I won't hand you the tidy version of faith where everything makes sense from where you're standing. That's not the version I've lived.
The version I know is the one where you can't see the reason yet, the timing feels wrong, and you keep going anyway. You trust the process not because it's been explained to you, but because you've decided you're not quitting on yourself in the middle of it.
That's trusting God's plan even when the plan looks nothing like what you asked for. Not with a smile pasted on. With your jaw set and your feet still moving forward.
It's not dramatic. That's the part nobody warns you about. The slow road is mostly small, unglamorous days stacked on top of each other.
It's the ten-minute walk you take just to hear yourself think again. The water you drink that doesn't feel like progress but is. The one thing you handled today that you thought you couldn't. None of it feels like a breakthrough while you're in it.
But momentum is just yesterday's small win showing up again today, and then again tomorrow. String enough of those together and one morning you look up and realize you've traveled further than the fast road ever would have taken you.
Here's the piece that holds the whole thing together. When the road is long, taking care of yourself physically isn't a luxury you'll get to later. It's the engine that keeps you upright.
Movement is a stress reliever before it's ever about how you look. It's about being able to carry what you're carrying, and the slow road asks you to carry it for a while. The sweat you earn on a hard day does more for your head than you'd expect, almost right away.
You only get the one body for this whole walk. Treat it like the thing getting you to the other side, because it is.
You might feel like you're walking this road alone. You're not, and not just because of the community of women over at OK Tease Co. who are on their own long roads right now and would recognize yours instantly.
If you've got kids, they're watching every step of this. They don't need a mom who got the fast answer and never struggled. They need the one who got the slow road and kept going anyway.
When they see you go through the depths of something and come out above it, you're paving the way for their own hard days down the line. That's the full circle. You overcame it, you're stronger for it, and they witnessed all of it.
I'll tell you what I've seen to be true, in the simplest words I've got. Life turns around for you the minute you start turning it around for yourself.
The slow road rewards that. It doesn't reward waiting for the perfect conditions or the sign you keep asking for. It rewards the woman who keeps showing up, puts in the next small win, and trusts that the pace she didn't choose is still taking her somewhere worth arriving.
You begged for the fast road. You got the slow one. And somewhere down it, you're going to meet the woman this whole walk was building, and she's going to be glad it took as long as it did.
