Who Are You Becoming, Not Who Are You Getting Back? The version of you that you keep reaching for might already be gone There's a moment a lot of women ...
There's a moment a lot of women hit when the ground shifts under them. You catch yourself trying to find your way back to who you were before everything changed. Same routines, same laugh, same easy confidence you had when life looked different.
And you can't quite get there. It feels like she slipped out a side door while you weren't looking.
Here's what I've come to believe, and it took me a while. You're not supposed to get her back. That's not the assignment.
The woman you were built herself for a life you're not living anymore, and asking her to run this new one would be like handing your old shoes to someone who wears a different size.
When you spend your energy trying to reclaim who you used to be, you're always looking over your shoulder. Every day becomes a comparison to a highlight reel that's already behind you.
That posture keeps you stuck. You measure today against a version of yourself who never had to carry what you're carrying now, so of course today feels like a loss.
But the woman you're becoming? She's being forged right now, in the exact hard stuff you'd give anything to skip. She's stronger because she had to be.
And she doesn't need to look backward, because she already knows things the old you never had to learn.
It's not a lightning bolt. Nobody wakes up rebranded and glowing on a Tuesday.
It's small and unglamorous. It's the morning that fell apart and you still got everyone out the door. It's saying "today's a lot, but we're okay, I've got us" and half-believing it, then believing it a little more the next time you say it.
The kids see all of it, by the way. They watch you go through the depths and come up above it, and that's the part that quietly rewires them for their own hard days. You becoming new is the best thing you'll ever model for them, and you don't have to say a word about it.
I move my body when my head is loud, and I don't do it to shrink or to look a certain way. I do it because it's the one thing that talks back to the noise.
Movement is a stress reliever before it's ever anything else. Fifteen honest minutes and something in my chest unclenches, and then, weirdly, my head starts working again. Taking care of yourself physically opens the door to the mental part almost right away, at least it always has for me.
Your body is the only temple you get. You can't outsource the carrying, so you build the frame that carries it.
I'm not going to hand you a tidy version of faith where everything lines up and makes sense. That's not the version I've lived.
Mine is the version where you can't see the reason yet and you keep going anyway. Where you trust that God's process is doing something even when it feels unfair, even when you'd have written the story completely differently. I've had prayers sit unanswered so long I stopped expecting them, and then the answer showed up later, and different, and better than the one I asked for.
Trusting the process doesn't mean pretending it's easy. It means moving forward while the reason is still under construction.
I was a single mom with two kids before life turned around, and I'll tell you the honest version. Life will turn around for you the minute you start turning it around for yourself.
That doesn't happen in a vacuum. It happens around women who've been where you are and don't flinch when you tell the truth about a hard day. That's the whole heart of OK Tease Co., women who get it, standing next to each other while everybody rebuilds.
You are not doing this alone even when the house is quiet and it feels like you are.
The old you got you here, and she deserves respect for that. She survived plenty. But she's not the finish line.
Somewhere in this hard season you're picking up things she never had. More grit. A shorter list of people you'll shrink for.
A steadier voice when you say what you need. Those aren't consolation prizes for what you lost. They're the raw material of who you're turning into.
So the next time you catch yourself reaching backward, try a different question. Not "how do I get her back," but "who am I actually becoming."
You don't have to have the answer today. You just have to stop treating the woman you used to be as the goal and start paying attention to the one showing up in the hard moments.
She's braver than the old you. She's carrying more and still standing. And every small day you keep going, she gets a little more real.
Keep going. You've got this, even on the days it doesn't feel like it, and especially then.
