You had the map. You knew where the exit was, what the years ahead were supposed to look like, who was going to be sitting in the passenger seat. Then life took a hard right you never signed off on, and now you are on some road you cannot even find on the map, gripping the wheel, wondering how you ended up here. That road you did not choose? It might be the actual road. Not the detour. The way through.
I know that is a hard thing to hear when you are in it. So let me say the honest part first, before I say the strong part.
Nobody wants to hear "trust the process" when the process feels like it is happening to you instead of for you. When you did everything right and it still came apart in your hands. When you look around at other women who seem to have the smooth road, the intact plan, the thing you wanted, and it lands in your chest like a bruise.
That feeling is real. You are not weak for feeling it, and you are not lacking faith for being angry that it went sideways. Trusting the process does not mean you have to pretend it makes sense right now. The version of faith I actually live in is not the tidy one where every hard thing gets a neat little bow and a reason you can see. It is the one where you cannot see the reason yet. Where you cannot connect a single dot looking forward. And you keep driving anyway.
That is the harder faith. It is also the only kind that holds up when the road is dark.
Here is what I have come to believe, and I will stand behind it. The plan you built was a good plan. But it was built by a version of you who had not been through this yet. She did not know what she was capable of because she had never been tested this way. You do now.
There is a whole life on the other side of a detour you would never have chosen. I know a little something about that. The single mom with two kids who ends up somewhere she never pictured, meeting people she never would have met on the road she planned. Life turns around for you the minute you start turning it around for yourself. Not the second the circumstances change. The second you do.
That is the part the map never tells you. The road you did not ask for is often the one that makes you into someone new. Not a patched-up version of who you were. New. Rebuilt from the inside, stronger in the places that used to be soft.
It is not dramatic. It is not a mountaintop moment with music swelling. Most of the time trusting the process looks like getting up, getting everyone where they need to be, and handling the thing in front of you even though your heart is somewhere three miles back on the road you lost.
It looks like the quiet after they drive off, the house too still, and you deciding you are going to move your body for fifteen minutes instead of sitting in it. Not because you feel like it. Because you know that taking care of the one body you get is the door into taking care of your head. Movement is a stress reliever before it is ever anything about how you look. When you start showing up for yourself physically, it starts helping you mentally almost right away, and that is what makes you able to keep going at all. Even the everyday benefits of regular movement come back around to that: it holds up the parts of you that carry everything else.
That is the full circle. You take care of yourself, it steadies your mind, your mind lets you keep going, and the whole time there are small eyes watching you do it. They see you go down into the hard part of life and come back up above it. They are witnesses to that. And it paves a road for them too, one they will thank you for later without ever knowing the name for it.
Here is the thing about being a woman. You do not get to step back. Not as a mom, not as a daughter, not as a sister. Life does not hand out those breaks, and you already know that because you have not taken one in longer than you can remember. So if you have to stay on the road either way, stay on it like it belongs to you.
That means being bold on the days you feel anything but. Standing tall in the room even when everything in you wants to shrink and blend into the wall. Refusing to let the world dim a light God put in you on purpose. You were built for this kind of resilience, whether you feel it today or not. Women come back stronger after every single setback. That is not a slogan. That is the design.
And this is where the community part matters, because you were never supposed to drive this road alone. The whole point of this place is that a woman in the middle of it can find another woman who has been there and think, she made it through, so maybe I will too. That is what we are here for. Empathy first, then the reminder of how strong you actually are, on repeat, until you start believing it yourself.
You did not ask for this detour. I know. But look at where it is taking you. Look at who you are becoming on the way. Keep driving. This might be the road all along.
You've got this.
