The Answer Came, Just Not in the Shape You Asked For You prayed for the door to open. What you got was a different door, in a different hallway, in a ho...
You prayed for the door to open. What you got was a different door, in a different hallway, in a house you did not pick. And for a while there, you stood in front of it kind of mad about it, because it was not what you asked for. It was not even close.
That is the part nobody warns you about. You can trust the process and still not recognize the answer when it shows up, because it rarely arrives wearing the outfit you imagined. You wanted the job back. You got the fresh start you did not want yet. You wanted things to go back to how they were. You got a version of yourself you had not met.
Most of us pray specific. We ask for the exact thing, the exact timeline, the exact shape. We want the raise, the second chance, the phone call that fixes it. And there is nothing wrong with asking specific. But specific asks tend to come back general, and general is harder to celebrate. It does not look like a win at first. It looks like a detour.
Here is what I have watched happen, in my own life and in the lives of women I talk to every day. The thing you begged to keep gets taken, and eighteen months later you would not go back to it if someone handed it to you. The plan you white-knuckled falls apart, and what grows in the gap is sturdier than anything you had before. You did not get the answer you wrote down. You got the one you needed. Those are almost never the same, and the space between them is where most of the growing happens.
I know that sounds tidy when you read it fast. It is not tidy when you are in it. When you are standing in a life you did not design, "God has a plan" can feel like a slap, not a comfort. So I am not going to hand you that line and walk away. The honest version is this: sometimes you cannot see the reason yet, and you keep going anyway. That is the whole thing. Not faith where every piece clicks into place. Faith where it does not, and you get up regardless.
I was a single mom with two kids. That was not the shape I asked for. If you had shown me the blueprint back then, I would have said no thank you, this is not what I ordered. And then a southern cowboy walked into my story, and the life I have now is one I could not have drawn if you gave me a hundred years and a fresh sheet of paper.
I am not telling you that to say the grass is greener and everything works out and put a bow on it. I am telling you because the answer I got looked nothing like the answer I asked for, and it was better than the one I would have chosen. Life turned around the minute I started turning it around for myself. Not before. Not while I was waiting on the exact door I wanted. When I started moving toward the ones actually in front of me.
That is the part you have some say in. You do not control the shape the answer comes in. You control whether you walk through the door that is actually open instead of standing in front of the one that stayed shut, arguing with it.
You do not have to understand the plan to take the next step in it. This is where a lot of us get stuck, waiting for the reason to make sense before we move. It does not work in that order. The clarity comes after the motion, almost never before.
So you do the small, unglamorous things that keep you upright. You move your body, because it is a stress reliever before it is anything else, and it is the door into your head clearing up. You take care of the one body you get, not to shrink it, but so you can carry what you are carrying right now. Movement being good for how you feel and not just how you look is not a slogan, it is one of the most consistent findings in physical activity research. You show up for the daily wins that nobody claps for. And your kids are watching the whole thing. They are watching you walk through a life you did not order and come out standing. That is a lesson you could never teach them with words, and they will carry it long after they forget the hard season it came from.
Stop measuring the answer against the one you requested. That comparison will keep you stuck forever, because the real answer will always come up short next to the fantasy you built.
Measure it against who you are becoming instead. The wrong-shaped answer is usually forcing you to grow in a direction you would have avoided if you got exactly what you asked for. You wanted the comfortable thing. You got the thing that made you strong. You do not have to like that trade to recognize it is the one that got made.
That is the register we hold here at OK Tease. Not a page that tells you it all makes sense right now, because sometimes it does not, and I am not going to pretend for you. A community that says keep going anyway. The reason shows up later. The strength shows up now, if you let it. You asked for one thing. What came instead is building someone you have not fully met yet, and she is going to look back at this exact season as the one that made her.
You have not been overlooked. The answer came. It just came in work clothes instead of a gift box, and you are the one strong enough to do the work.
