Is Comparing Your Chapter One to Her Chapter Twenty Wearing You Out? The scroll that leaves you feeling behind She has the house, the schedule that runs...
She has the house, the schedule that runs like clockwork, the kids who look like they slept eight hours. You caught it between drop-off and the grocery run, and now you feel like you started this race a decade late.
Here is what you did not see. You do not know how many years it took her to get there, how many mornings fell apart before this one, or what she is not posting.
You are looking at her chapter twenty and grading your chapter one against it. Of course you feel behind. You are comparing a beginning to a middle and calling yourself the problem.
Nobody posts the seasons that made them who they are. The stretch where they did not have the answers, where the grass on the other side was not visible yet, where they kept going on faith they could not fully explain.
Part of the story here at OK Tease Co. is exactly that: a single mom with two kids, in the thick of it, who came out on the other side into a life she could not have pictured from where she was standing. That did not happen in a week. It happened in the parts nobody would have hit "like" on.
So when you measure your right-now against her arrived-at, you are borrowing a finished product and holding your rough draft up next to it.
The morning you got everyone fed and out the door when the whole thing was coming apart at the seams. That counted. The bag you packed, the goodbye you got through, the quiet house you walked back into and did not let flatten you.
Those are not small. Those are the reps. That is chapter one being written whether it feels like progress or not.
Women can carry far more than they think, and most of us do not find out how much until we are already in it. You are in it. And you are still standing, still moving, still showing up for the people who need you.
Here is the part that is genuinely hard, and I am not going to hand you a tidy bow. Sometimes you are doing everything right and it still looks like other people got the shortcut.
The faith piece for me has always been trusting the process even when I cannot see the reason yet. Not the version where everything makes sense on schedule. The version where you keep going anyway, because the reason is real even when it is not visible.
Her chapter twenty had a chapter one that looked like unfair too. You just did not read that part.
When the comparison spiral has its hooks in you, sitting in it makes it worse. Getting your body moving pulls you out faster than talking yourself out of it does.
I move on the days my head says no, and it works almost every time. Not because I love it in the moment, but because it is a stress reliever first and everything else second. Fifteen minutes of walking, a few sets in the living room, whatever you can get.
Your body is the only one you get, and taking care of it is the door into taking care of your head. You cannot out-scroll a bad mood, but you can walk it down a notch.
Stop stacking yourself against her and start stacking yourself against you. The you from a month ago, the you who was not sure she could handle the season she is now handling.
That is the only fair comparison, because it is the only one where both people started at the same line. Chapter one to chapter three of your own book. That is where the real progress shows up.
Pick one thing you have done this week that past-you would not have believed. You will find it if you look. That is your evidence, and it beats anyone's grid.
They are watching, and they are not watching for perfection. They are watching to see what you do when it is hard and the finish line is nowhere in sight.
When they see you keep going through a season you cannot see the end of, you hand them something most grown adults never got: proof that you can be in the middle of it and still be okay. That is not a lesson you teach. It is one they catch by watching you live it.
You are not behind. You are early in a story that is still being written, and the people who love you get a front-row seat to the comeback.
The truth I keep coming back to is simple, and it is not the greener-grass cliche. Life turns around for you the minute you start turning it around for yourself.
Not all at once. Not on her timeline. On yours, one honest chapter at a time, in a body you are learning to take care of and a head that is slowly getting quieter.
You do not need her chapter twenty. You need to keep writing yours, and trust that the woman who gets there is being built right now, on the days it feels like nothing is happening at all.
