Your phone buzzes. She's venting again—the job, the marriage, the exhaustion that sits bone-deep. You stare at the screen, thumbs hovering, wanting to say something that matters. Something beyond "thinking of you" or the heart emoji you've sent twelve times this month.
Most of us freeze in these moments. Not because we don't care, but because we care so much that generic feels insulting. She's drowning, and "hang in there" sounds like a pool noodle thrown from shore.
The texts that actually reach her? They're specific. They're low-pressure. They don't ask her to perform gratitude or explain her pain one more time.
That question puts the burden on her. Now she has to assess her emotional state, find words for it, and decide how honest to be—all while barely keeping her head above water. It's exhausting.
Instead, try this:
"I'm not asking how you are. I'm just telling you I see you fighting, and I'm proud of you."
This text removes the obligation to respond. She doesn't have to craft an update or pretend she's fine. You've acknowledged her struggle without requiring anything in return. Read it again. There's no question mark. No pressure. Just presence.
Women in hard seasons often feel invisible—like everyone around them is waiting for the "old her" to come back. This text says: I see who you are right now, and that's enough.
"Let me know if you need anything" is a kindness trap. She won't let you know. She doesn't want to be a burden, doesn't have the energy to delegate, or genuinely can't identify what she needs because survival mode doesn't allow for that kind of clarity.
Flip the script:
"I'm grabbing coffee tomorrow at 10. I'm bringing you one—what's your order?"
You've made the decision. You've set the time. All she has to do is answer a simple question. This works because you're not offering vague support—you're showing up with specifics. Coffee, not "anything." Tomorrow at 10, not "sometime."
The same structure works for other situations: "I'm ordering dinner for you tonight. Thai or Mexican?" or "I'm dropping off groceries Saturday morning. Text me three things you're out of."
Small. Specific. Already decided.
Women in crisis often turn inward with the harshest voice. She's replaying every decision, cataloging every failure, wondering how she got here. Your job isn't to fix her thinking—it's to interrupt it.
"Remember when you [specific moment she was strong]? That woman is still in there. She's just resting."
Fill in the bracket with something real. The time she left that toxic friendship. The season she rebuilt after her dad passed. The way she held it together during the move, the diagnosis, the layoff.
This text works because it's evidence. You're not offering empty encouragement—you're reminding her of her own track record. She's been through hard before. She came out. That pattern isn't broken; it's just harder to see from the inside.
She's probably holding it together for everyone else. The kids, the coworkers, the family members who can't handle seeing her struggle. She needs someone to tell her she can stop performing.
"You don't have to be strong with me. Fall apart if you need to. I'll still be here when you're done."
This text is holy ground. You're offering safety—not solutions, not silver linings, not toxic positivity about how everything happens for a reason. Just space.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is: your mess doesn't scare me. Your tears don't make you weak. Your anger doesn't make you difficult. Bring it all.
Hard seasons warp time. When you're in survival mode, it feels permanent. The fog convinces her this is her life now—that the heaviness will never lift.
"This chapter is brutal, but it's still just a chapter. And I'll be here for the next one."
Future tense matters here. You're planting a flag in a time that exists beyond this pain. You're reminding her that seasons shift, that what feels endless actually ends, and that you're committed beyond this particular storm.
This isn't dismissing her struggle with "this too shall pass" vibes. It's acknowledging the brutality while refusing to let it have the final word.
You've been thinking about her for days. You've almost reached out three times. You've told yourself she's probably busy, she has other people, she might not want to talk.
Send it anyway.
The women who make it through their hardest seasons almost always point to the same thing: someone who didn't disappear. Someone who kept showing up in small ways when the big gestures weren't possible. Someone who refused to let silence win.
You don't need the perfect words. You need consistent ones. She needs to know that on the other side of her phone, someone remembers she exists—not the version of her that has it together, but the one who's struggling right now.
That text you've been drafting in your head? Send it. Today. She's waiting to remember she's not alone.
